Nigeria Becomes Top African Crude Oil Supplier to U.S in Jan-Aug ‘25

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Nigeria has strengthened its position in the global energy market after emerging as the top African supplier of crude oil to the United States during the first eight months of 2025.

Data released by the US Mission shows that Nigeria shipped a total of 33.23 million barrels of crude oil to the U.S. between January and August, with exports valued at approximately $2.57 billion.

The figures indicate that Nigeria contributed more than 50 percent of all crude oil volumes exported from Africa to the United States over the period, underscoring its dominant role among regional producers. The US Mission highlighted the development in a public statement, pointing to the shipments as evidence of strong and ongoing energy trade ties between both countries.

Officials noted that Nigeria’s consistent supply has helped meet U.S. crude demand while reinforcing bilateral economic cooperation. The exports also reflect Nigeria’s ability to maintain relevance in the U.S. market despite shifts in global oil flows and growing competition from other producing regions.

In a related development, data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration revealed a sharp increase in Nigeria’s crude oil imports from the United States. Imports surged by 153 percent between January and September 2025.
