SEATTLE (Oil Monster): OMV Petrom and ROMGAZ have launched pipelaying operations for the Neptun Deep project, marking a major milestone in Romania’s offshore energy development. The €4 billion project in the Black Sea is expected to produce around 8 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, strengthening regional energy security.
The 160-km offshore pipeline will connect production platforms to onshore facilities at Tuzla, forming a critical part of the project’s infrastructure. Installation activities this year include deploying subsea equipment, advancing offshore construction, and integrating operations across maritime and land-based systems.

A fleet of nearly 50 specialized vessels has been mobilized, including the Castoro 10, which has begun installing the first pipeline section along the coastal zone. Advanced techniques such as microtunneling are being used to enhance safety and minimize environmental impact.
The project also includes multiple subsea systems and 10 production wells, with drilling already underway. First gas is targeted for 2027, positioning Romania as a key natural gas supplier in Southeast Europe while boosting long-term energy resilience and supply diversification.
