Shell, METLEN Reached Agreement to Co-operate on LNG Supply and Trading

SEATTLE (Oil Monster):Shell and METLEN have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) establishing a framework for cooperation in liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply and trading, reinforcing Greece’s ambition to become a regional energy hub.

Under the agreement, the companies will supply and trade approximately 0.5–1 billion cubic meters per year (bcm/y) of LNG over the five-year period from 2027 to 2031. Deliveries are planned to Greece’s LNG regasification terminals at Revithoussa LNG Terminal and Alexandroupolis LNG Terminal. The MoU also envisages utilizing the Vertical Gas Corridor, enabling access to additional European markets beyond Southeast Europe.

Shell, the world’s largest buyer of U.S. LNG, will leverage its global portfolio, shipping capacity and trading expertise to support growing regional gas demand. The partnership strengthens METLEN’s position in European gas markets while enhancing liquidity and regional energy security.

The MoU was signed in Washington, D.C. by senior executives from both companies in the presence of Greek and U.S. government officials, underscoring the geopolitical significance of transatlantic LNG cooperation aligned with the Vertical Gas Corridor initiative.
