Twin Creeks Landfill Announced Renewable Natural Gas Project

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): A new renewable natural gas (RNG) project is coming to Waste Management’s Twin Creeks landfill site near Warwick. The proposed methane-harnessing project is expected to become operational in early-2025 and will have the capacity to generate sufficient natural gas to heat nearly 35,000 homes per year for a period of 20 years, officials said.

The project will create RNG from landfill gas by removing carbon dioxide, oxygen and other trace gases, which will then be compressed and injected into Enbridge’s transmission network.

It must be noted that landfill gas is created by decaying organic material, and is collected using wells and pumps that operate under negative pressure. The redirection of the landfill gas, instead of burning, will eliminate huge volumes of greenhouse gas emissions.

The company expects to receive project approvals before the end of the current year, after which construction will commence. The facility will be commissioned by end-2024, with full operations expected in early-2025. The construction phase will create approximately 75 jobs. Upon full operations, six full-time operations and maintenance workers will be hired. The number of positions will grow to 10 over time, it noted.
