US Petroleum Product Exports Hit Multi-Year High in January 2026

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): U.S. refined petroleum product exports transported on clean product tankers continued to climb through 2025, reaching approximately 6.3 million barrels per day (bpd) in January 2026, according to Vortexa. The latest figure marks a roughly 10% year-on-year increase and places shipments close to historic peaks. Stronger overseas demand for diesel, gasoline, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) underpinned the growth.

Data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s Weekly Petroleum Status Report shows total petroleum product exports averaged 7.0 million bpd in January 2026, up about 540,000 bpd, or 8%, from a year earlier. Clean products—such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, propane, and butane—are transported on specialized tankers, distinct from vessels used for crude oil and heavier residual fuels.

Diesel recorded the most significant increase, rising more than 210,000 bpd, or 19%, compared with January 2025. Shipments to Europe more than doubled year on year as winter heating needs and supply constraints supported demand. Meanwhile, exports to South America eased, shifting the regional balance.

LPG exports also expanded by just over 210,000 bpd, reflecting ample U.S. Gulf Coast inventories. Gasoline and jet fuel shipments posted moderate gains, supported by robust refinery runs and competitive U.S. pricing.
