SEATTLE (Oil Monster):Williams Companies Inc has broken ground on the Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) project, a major expansion of the Transco natural gas pipeline system that will add 400,000 dekatherms per day of capacity. The project, backed by former President Donald Trump, is aimed at strengthening energy supply across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

The NESE expansion will enhance grid reliability and energy security, ensuring stable supply for households, businesses, and critical infrastructure as demand rises. The Transco pipeline, which spans roughly 10,000 miles, currently transports 19.5 million dekatherms per day and has storage capacity of 200 million dekatherms.
The additional capacity is expected to meet the energy needs of approximately 2.3 million homes when the project becomes operational in 2027. The U.S. Department of Energy highlighted the project as part of broader efforts to strengthen domestic energy infrastructure.
Initially approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in 2019, the project faced delays before receiving renewed authorization in 2025. Williams confirmed that long-term agreements covering full capacity have been secured, reflecting strong market demand.
