SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Energy major bp announced safe startup of its sixth major upstream oil and gas project of the year. It commenced production from the Murlach field in the UK North Sea.
In 2023, the project obtained the required regulatory and governmental permits. It involved redeveloping the field that had been abandoned by the previous operator. Bp conducted topside modifications to the ETAP central processing plant, installed subsea equipment, and drilled two additional wells as part of the redevelopment project.

The six projects generate approximately 150,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) of production at peak net production. The company's previously stated objective to generate an extra 250,000 boed combined peak net production by the end of 2027 will be further supported by these projects.
Bp's senior vice president of projects, Ewan Drummond, commented on the news, saying that the projects demonstrate the company's ability to safely increase output in order to satisfy growing worldwide demand. He noted that Murlach is BP's sixth 2025 start-up and represents yet another significant turning point in the company's goal to complete ten significant upstream oil and gas projects by the end of 2027.
