SEATTLE (Oil Monster): At its Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) Phase-1 project offshore Mauritania and Senegal, the UK-based oil and gas behemoth BP declared that it had loaded the first LNG cargo from a floating FLNG vessel onto an LNG tanker. The commissioning is still scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.
Covid-related problems, together with other technical and financial obstacles, have caused the project to experience hitherto unheard-of delays. It was anticipated that the exports would start in 2022. Despite the delay, the export is regarded as a significant project milestone. The first LNG production milestone was declared by GTA in February of this year, after the first gas production milestone was announced in late 2024.
A business news release stated that Golar LNG's GLNG vessel Gimi, which is situated roughly 10 kilometers offshore, transported 174,000 cubic meters of LNG to a British Sponsor carrier. The first LNG is consistent with BP's upstream business expansion strategy. Additionally, a second LNG tanker is presently waiting to hoist additional project cargo close to the hub terminal.
Senegal and Mauritania are now allowed to export gas after the first LNG shipment is lifted.
