SEATTLE (Oil Monster):Chevron has announced a AUD 3 billion ($2 billion) investment to advance the Gorgon Stage 3 project, connecting the offshore Geryon and Eurytion gas fields to the existing Gorgon subsea infrastructure and processing facilities on Barrow Island, Western Australia.
This new phase marks the first in a planned series of subsea tiebacks for the Gorgon development, complementing the Jansz-Io compression project and the earlier Stage 2 infill work. The project includes installing three manifolds, a 35 km production flowline, and other supporting infrastructure. Six wells will be drilled in water depths around 1,300 meters, located approximately 100 km northwest of Barrow Island.

Chevron Australia president Balaji Krishnamurthy highlighted that the Stage 3 development will sustain Gorgon’s production, ensuring long-term domestic gas supply for Western Australia and LNG exports to Asia. “By integrating the Geryon and Eurytion fields with existing Gorgon and Jansz-Io facilities, we can continue delivering reliable energy, supporting thousands of skilled jobs, boosting regional communities, and contributing to government revenue,” he said.
The Gorgon facility currently produces up to 300 terajoules of gas per day and 15.6 million tonnes of LNG annually, reinforcing Australia’s role as a key global LNG supplier.
