Chevron LNG Workers Delayed Strike Until Friday

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The previously announced strike action by Chevron workers at two of the company’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Australia has now been delayed until Friday on account of ongoing talks between the company officials and union representatives. The reason for the immediate one-day delay is unknown.

The workers were due to begin industrial action Thursday as part of their dispute with the company over pay and conditions. As per latest announcement, the strike action will now be delayed until 06:00 on Friday Perth time (22:00 GMT Thursday).

The mediation talks between Chevron management and the Offshore Alliance- the partnership that represents workers belonging to two unions is being hosted by the Fair Work Commission.

The Chevron Australia spokesperson said that the company will continue to work through the bargaining process towards an outcome that is in the interests of both employees and the company. At the same time, it will take necessary steps to ensure safe and reliable operations at its facilities in the event of disruption, he added.

Analysts hint at possible progress on the negotiations, due to which unions have come forward with a delay.

The Gorgon and Wheatstone plants in Western Australia account for around 5% of the global LNG capacity. It must be noted that the news about proposed strike action had resulted in notable surge in natural gas prices.
