SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), in its latest Short Term Energy Outlook Report, stated that the natural gas consumption in the country is forecast to witness a rise of 1% in 2025 to reach a new record of 91.4 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d).
With the exception of electric power, all industries are expected to see increases in consumption. It should be mentioned that throughout the previous ten years, the electric power sector was the primary driver of consumption growth.

Natural gas consumption peaked in the United States at the start of the year. Consumption reached a record of 126.8 Bcf/d in January 2025, which was 5% more than the previous record established in January 2024. According to the EIA report, although the consumption decreased to 115.9 Bcf/d, it was still 5% more than the previous February consumption record established in 2021.
Natural gas consumption in the United States usually peaks in January and February, primarily as a result of rising demand from the residential and commercial sectors for natural gas as their principal heating fuel.
In comparison to the same period last year, the U.S. consumed less natural gas this spring and summer, primarily in the electric power sector, according to EIA estimates.
