SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO) Report published by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) predicts natural gas production from the Eagle Ford region to surge by 2026.
The region’s production is predicted to grow from 6.8 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in 2024 to 7.0 Bcf/d in 2026. The increased production forecast is mainly driven by rising natural gas prices and growth in demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. Meanwhile, oil production from the region is forecast to remain stable at around 1.1 million barrels per day (b/d) through 2026.

The Eagle Ford region contains two prominent plays- the Eagle Ford play and the Austin Chalk play. The Eagle Ford play makes up nearly 73% of the region’s natural gas production and almost 86% of the oil production. The Austin Chalk play makes up 23% and 11% of the region’s natural gas and oil production from the region.
Since 2020, natural gas production from the Eagle Ford play has grown by 10%, while production has declined by 4%. Also, the Austin Chalk play natural gas production has nearly tripled and oil production has surged higher by 26% since 2020. It must be noted that the natural gas production from the Austin Chalk play has skyrocketed by 675% since 2014, while the oil production has almost quadrupled.
