SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Azerbaijan’s state-owned energy company SOCAR announced that it has entered into an official agreement with the Syrian administration towards supply of natural gas. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed between Mikayil Jabbarov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy and Mohammed a-Bashir, Syria’s Minister of Energy.

The deal marks a significant step forward in Syria’s efforts in achieving energy independence. The natural gas sector co-operation with SOCAR will help Syria to meet future energy needs. The agreement is considered important as it will benefit the Syrian population as a whole, said Minister Bashir.
The previous governments in Syria had been hostile in its relationship with Azerbaijan. However, the diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries have cooled off under the new Syrian leadership. Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa said that his administration is committed to pursue a new era of diplomacy and collaboration with world countries including Azerbaijan.
The natural gas deal is considered strategic as it will help SOCAR and Azerbaijan to expand its influence and partnerships in the region.
