Sonatrach CEO Highlights Natural Gas as Key to Global Energy Balance at Gastech 2025

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The CEO of Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, emphasized the major role of natural gas in maintaining balance of the global energy market during the “Gastech 2025” Conference and Exhibition, which began Tuesday in Milan, Italy.

Hachichi participated in a closed-door session held on the first day of this international event, themed “Enhancing the Role of Natural Gas to Ensure Energy Market Balance,” as stated in the company’s press release.

During this session, which convened nearly thirty decision-makers from the energy sector, Hachichi stressed the necessity of using natural gas “as an energy source to maintain global energy market balance, particularly amidst geopolitical uncertainties facing the world, with the emergence of major energy consumers and rising energy demand due to increased usage of AI.”

He also discussed challenges imposed by environmental preservation requirements, seeking clean and low-carbon energy sources, considering it necessary to unite the efforts of producers and consumers to preserve natural gas’s position as a clean and strategic energy source.

Hachichi also emphasized the important role that public companies and institutions must play in establishing a legal and regulatory framework enabling natural gas to occupy its expected place in the global energy landscape, according to the statement.

Sonatrach CEO also participated in a conference alongside the chairman of the board of Libya’s “National Oil Corporation (NOC),” Masoud Suleman Moussa, on the theme “Redefining the Concept of National Oil Companies in the Era of Energy Uncertainties.”

In this regard, Hachichi addressed the situation of state-owned national companies, which serve as the backbone of their countries’ economies and are primary guarantors of energy security, and must adapt and face global changes, particularly regarding energy transition and clean and renewable energies, while maintaining their role in supporting national economic sovereignty.

Regarding Sonatrach, its CEO highlighted the role it assumes in guaranteeing Algeria’s energy security, thus becoming “a reliable and secure supplier to the European market and a strategic partner for leading energy companies,” the statement concluded.
