The unanimous approval marks an important milestone in the key infrastructure project. However, it still requires approval from the Public Service Commission before construction can begin. The company had hoped to begin construction this year to bring it online by 2029.
WP&L, a subsidiary of Alliant Energy, submitted its application in February last year. Later, it purchased the project site for $5.43 million. The proposed facility is expected to store up to 2 billion cubic feet of natural gas
Construction is projected to create up to 350 jobs. According to Town officials, the facility could generate more than $350,000 annually in shared revenue.
Some residents expressed concerns about environmental impacts and emissions. However, committee members observed that the company had satisfied all required conditions.
