SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The U.S. Department of the Interior declared that the Mowry Composite Total Petrolundeeum System in the western U.S. region contains substantial undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources, according to a recent study conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
Based on the findings of the assessment, areas in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah were found to have 473 million barrels of oil and 27 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Along with supporting domestic energy supply, these recently found resources could significantly enhance local economies.

"The new resource assessment will strengthen its drive to ensure energy independence and also drive economic development across the U.S. West," said Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum in an official statement. He noted that the science-based assessment indicates that there are substantial untapped potentials in the public lands of southwest Wyoming.
The Dakota Sandstone, the Muddy Sandstone, the Mowry Shale, and the Frontier Formation are all parts of the Mowry Composite system. About 90 million barrels of oil and 7.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas have been produced by the system since drilling began in the 1950s.
