SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Archaea Energy, a bp entity, announced that its renewable natural gas facility in Medora, Indiana has started operations. The facility is located next to a landfill owned by Rumpke Waste and Recycling.
This is the first facility to start operations since the acquisition of Archaea Energy by bp last year. Further to the acquisition, bp has emerged as the biggest renewable natural gas (RNG) producer in the country. The company has committed to invest more in support of its energy transition plan, with special focus on bioenergy.

The Archaea Modular Design (AMD) technology employed at the facility will capture Rumpke’s landfill gas and transform it into electricity, heat or RNG. The plant’s current capacity allows conversion of 3,200 cubic feet of landfill gas per minute into RNG, the company noted.
Starlee Sykes, CEO, Archaea Energy noted that the Medora plant is just the beginning of what it plans to achieve through Archaea acquisition. This is a powerful step forward in its net-zero journey to capture landfill emissions. The company plans to bring several AMD plants online this year itself, Sykes added.
The addition of the Archaea Energy plant at the landfill site is expected to further reduce emissions.
