SEATTLE (Oil Monster): In 2025, the average Brazilian annual production of oil and natural gas reached a historic mark of 4.897 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), approximately 12.7% higher than the previous record, achieved in 2023, which was 4.344 million barrels of oil equivalent/day. Compared to 2024, which totaled 4.322 million boe/d, there was a growth of 13.3%.
These and other annual data can be found in the December 2025 Monthly Oil and Natural Gas Production Bulletin, released today (February 2nd), which, in addition to this month’s data, includes an insert with consolidated annual data for 2025.
In the case of oil, 3.770 million barrels per day (bbl/d) were produced in 2025, a historical record and 12.3% above that observed in 2024 (when it reached 3.358 million bbl/d).
Natural gas production in 2025 reached an annual average of 179 million cubic meters per day (m³/d), also reaching a historical record. The average was 17% higher than the previous year, when it registered 153 million m³/d.
In 2025, the majority of oil and gas production came from pre-salt reservoirs, representing, on average, 79.63% of national production. Post-salt and onshore production, on average, represent 15.45% and 4.92%, respectively, of the total produced in the country.
Data from December 2025
In December 2025, national oil and natural gas production was 5.237 million boe/d.
In the case of oil, 4.015 million bbl/d were produced, an increase of 6.4% compared to November and 17.4% compared to December 2024.
For natural gas, production was 194.33 million m³/d, having grown 6.4% compared to the previous month and 20.6% compared to the same month of 2024.
Pre-salt
Total production (oil + natural gas) in the pre-salt layer in December was 4.164 million boe/d, corresponding to 79.5% of Brazilian production. This figure represents a 6.4% increase compared to the previous month and a 19.7% increase compared to the same month in 2024.
3.211 million bbl/d of oil and 151.56 million m³/d of natural gas were produced from 175 wells.
Natural Gas Utilization
In December, natural gas utilization was 97.5%. 64.53 million m³/d were made available to the market, and 4.86 million m³/d were flared. There was a 14.8% reduction in flaring compared to the previous month and a 14% reduction compared to December 2024.
Production Source
In the month, offshore fields produced 97.9% of the oil and 86.5% of the natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras, alone or in consortium with other companies, accounted for 90.03% of total production. Production originated from 6,048 wells, 547 offshore and 5,501 onshore.
Fields and Installations
In December, the Tupi field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, was the largest producer, registering 838,980 bbl/d of oil and 41.79 million m³/d of natural gas.
The installation with the highest oil production was the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, in the Búzios field, with 238,960 bbl/d of oil. The installation with the highest natural gas production was the FPSO Guanabara, in the Mero field, with a total production of 12.10 million m³/d.
