Intensity, Rainbow Near FID on Bakken Natural Gas Pipeline to Eastern North Dakota

SEATTLE (Oil Monster):Intensity Infrastructure Partners LLC and Rainbow Energy Center LLC said they are nearing a positive final investment decision (FID) on a new natural gas pipeline project to move Bakken natural gas to eastern North Dakota, supported by firm shipper commitments and rising regional demand.

In a joint statement, the companies said executed precedent agreements provide sufficient backing to advance Phase I of the proposed 36-inch pipeline, reflecting confidence in long-term power generation, data center growth, and industrial development across the state.

The project is designed as a scalable power and gas delivery hub, providing reliable supply through multiple receipt points, including the Northern Border Pipeline, WBI Energy transmission and storage assets, and direct connections to six Bakken gas processing plants. The system will operate without compression fuel surcharges, improving tariff transparency, operational efficiency, and reliability for shippers.

Phase I includes a 136-mile, 36-inch pipeline from Watford City to Washburn with a capacity of about 1.1 million dekatherms per day. A planned Phase II extension to Casselton would further expand throughput. The partners are targeting a July 2029 in-service date, subject to market demand and permitting progress.
