Israel Approved Revised Plan for Leviathan Expansion Project

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The Energy and Infrastructures Ministry granted approval to Chevron Corporation and its local partners for a revised plan for expansion project aimed at boosting Leviathan field’s production capacity. The Phase 1B project is expected to boost Leviathan’s production capacity to around 23 billion cubic meters.

The Phase 1B plan will be implemented in either one go or two stages. The initial phase would add a capacity of approximately 21 Bcm a year. Stage II would add nearly 2 Bcm. In a regulatory filing last week, major stakeholder NewMed Energy LP stated that a final investment decision (FID) on stage 1 in Q4 this year.

In his approval, the commissioner stated that the consortium will have to submit necessary documents and obtain permit in accordance with the professional team at the Natural Resources Administration at the Ministry of Energy, so as to boost the production above 2,100 MMscfd upon implementation of Stage 2 of the revised development plan.

In the first stage, three production wells would be drilled. Also, it comprises of adding new subsea systems and expanding processing facilities on the existing platform. The total cost is estimated at around $2.4 billion. Stage 2 will see drilling of additional production wells and related subsea systems. Additionally, it proposes to build a fourth pipeline between the field and the platform.
