SEATTLE (Oil Monster): NewMed Energy, an Israeli oil and gas partnership, declared that the Leviathan offshore natural gas field will be operational again in a matter of hours. The news comes after Iran and Israel agreed to a ceasefire. It should be mentioned that due to geopolitical upheaval caused by the Iran-Israel conflict, gas field operations have been temporarily suspended since June 13, 2025.

Israeli Leviathan Natural Gas Field Halted Production
Following a security evaluation, the Israeli Energy Ministry has already approved the resumption of operations at the Karish and Leviathan gas fields. Natural gas exports to Egypt and Jordan are anticipated to restart as a result of the action. In addition to exporting to Jordan and Egypt, the Leviathan field currently generates 12 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas annually, which is used for domestic purposes.
Egypt is anticipated to gradually resume importing gas from Israel, with full operation levels anticipated by Saturday, according to media sources. Prior to the suspension, imported natural gas from Israel had accounted for 15-20% of Egypt’s entire consumption.
Significant relief from regional energy worries is anticipated as a result of the restart of Leviathan supply. This will provide Egypt's electrical and industrial sectors with more stable gas supplies.
