Middle East to Surpass Asia to Become World’s Second Largest Gas Producer in 2025

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): By 2025, the Middle East is expected to surpass Asia as the world's second-largest producer of gas, trailing only North America, according to research and analysis by Rystad Energy.

Since 2020, the Middle East's gas production has increased by over 15%. Approximately 70 billion cubic feet of gas per day (Bcfd) are now produced in the area. Due mostly to advances in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates, this is expected to rise by 30% by 2030 and 34% by 2035. It is anticipated that the region will add an additional 20 Bcfd by the end of the current decade.

An additional 10 Bcfd of gas will be available for export from the area due to the anticipated increase in production. As a result, the area will be positioned to supply a significant amount of gas to both rapidly expanding Asian markets and Europe.

New, affordable projects will account for a sizable amount of the anticipated expansion, particularly in the Gulf trio of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. By 2030, the North Field development project in Qatar, for example, is anticipated to increase its capacity for LNG by 80%, from 77 to 142 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). It is anticipated that the region would add 60 Mtpa of additional capacity by 2028.

The Ruwais LNG project will provide an extra 10 Mtpa from the UAE. The anticipated increase will also be greatly aided by the Marsa LNG project in Oman.
