Romania Strikes Natural Gas Import Deal with Turkiye

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): The new energy cooperation agreement between Romania and Turkey includes clauses allowing for emergency imports of up to 4 million cubic meters of natural gas into Romania. The energy minister of Romania, Sebastian Burduja, made the announcement.

The agreement comes after he met with his Turkish colleague, Alparslan Bayraktar, at last week's Istanbul International Natural Resources Summit. Cooperation between the two nations was discussed at the conference on a number of topics, such as investments in green energy and natural gas security. Flexible gas transfers from Turkiye to Romania are required by the recently signed deal, particularly in emergency situations.

In addition to the agreement, the conversation touched on more general energy issues, such as the development of the Tuzla–Podisor pipeline and the state of the Black Sea’s Neptun Deep offshore gas project. The Turkish investors also showed interest in Romania's renewable energy industry, particularly in the solar and wind industries.

Concerns exist, meanwhile, over the real source of the gas passing through Turkiye. Despite being labeled as Turkish, it is often believed that the gas entering Romania from Turkiye via Bulgaria comes from Russia. Officials pointed out that it is very challenging to pinpoint the precise source of the imported gas.
