Russian Pipeline Gas Exports to Europe Dipped in 2023

SEATTLE (Oil Monster):  The Russian pipeline gas exports to Europe recorded drastic decline during the previous year.

The supplies to Europe by Gazprom were down significantly by 55.6% in 2023 to total 28.3 billion cubic metres (bcm). These calculations are based on data published by the European gas transmission group Entsog and daily reports on gas transits via Ukraine released by Gazprom. As per data, the average daily pipeline exports of Russian gas to Europe dropped from 174.8 million cubic metres (mcm) in 2022 to 77.6 mcm in 2023.

In total, Russia had supplied around 63.8 bcm of gas to Europe in 2022. At its peak in 2018-’19, the annual exports had touched levels of 175-180 bcm. Europe had once been the primary export market of Russian gas. The exports have dropped significantly on account of the political fallout following the country’s invasion of Ukraine. It must be noted that Gazprom is yet to publish its export statistics in 2023.

The overall gas production by Russia during the eleven-month period from January to November last year totalled almost 595 bcm, slightly down by 3% when compared with the corresponding period in 2022.

Meantime, Gazprom projected that Russia has the potential to become the world’s third largest LNG producer after the U.S. and Qatar.
