U.S. Natural Gas Pipeline Exports to Mexico Hit New Record

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): According to the latest U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) report, U.S. natural gas pipeline exports to Mexico reached a record 7.5 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in May 2025, fueled by rising demand from Mexico’s electric power sector.

On an annual basis, U.S. natural gas exports to Mexico averaged 6.4 Bcf/d in the past year—the highest yearly level since 1975. Compared with 2019, exports have surged nearly 25%, reflecting Mexico’s growing natural gas consumption, which rose from 7.7 Bcf/d to 8.6 Bcf/d over the same period.

Despite the record exports, challenges remain. Mexican pipeline infrastructure constraints and limited gas storage capacity continue to pose obstacles. To address these, Mexico has announced plans to expand its domestic pipeline network, aiming to meet future demand growth.

U.S. natural gas enters Mexico through four main corridors: South Texas, West Texas, Arizona, and California. In 2024, the West and South Texas pipelines together accounted for 91% of total U.S. pipeline exports to Mexico.
