Venture Global Targets to Double Export Capacity of Louisiana LNG Terminal

SEATTLE (Oil Monster): Venture Global LNG has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly scale up its Plaquemines LNG export facility in Louisiana, outlining its proposal to double total output capacity in a recent filing with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The company is seeking approval to add a third development phase to the project, which is presently in various stages of construction and commissioning.

The first two phases of the Plaquemines terminal are designed to deliver up to 27.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG at peak production once fully operational. Venture Global now intends to incorporate an additional 31 MTPA through the planned expansion phase, ultimately raising total capacity to an estimated 58.2 MTPA across all three phases.

According to the regulatory submission, construction of Phase Three is targeted to begin in early 2027 pending clearances from both FERC and the U.S. Department of Energy. The build-out is expected to require close to four years, with the first volumes from the expanded segment projected to come online in 2028. Meanwhile, the initial phases of the terminal are scheduled to achieve full commercial output during 2027.

Chief Executive Officer Mike Sabel emphasized that the move to expand capacity underscores robust global demand for U.S. LNG and positions the project to help meet that growing requirement. He added that the enlarged terminal will play a critical role in strengthening energy security and supply reliability in international markets.
